On April 17, 2010, on live national tv on the CBS channel, Mohammed ‘King Mo’ Lawall became Coach Mel’s first World MMA champion. Mo was under Mel’s tutelage for two years and came to him with no fighting experience and very little knowledge in how to strike. Coach Mel was one of the coaches (along with Ryan Parsons and Danny Perez) that helped Mohammed Lawall to become successful in the cage.
Coach Mel also acknowledges his first ‘BlackBelt’ or Highest Instructor that he has certified - Caine Gayle. Caine Gayle has been a student of Melchor Menor since 1999 and has also fought once for him. Caine has traveled to Thailand many times to train. Caine Gayle passed his ‘Instructor Certification’ two years ago and has gone on to train fighters himself.
